Pre-Vasectomy Sperm Banking
While a vasectomy should be considered a long-term form of birth control, sometimes individuals will have a change of heart and want more children. Pre-vasectomy sperm banking can help ensure the easy availability of sperm for conception. If there is any possibility at all that you would like more children later in life, sperm banking is the most cost-effective method to ensure your future fertility.
We have worked with many patients that did not store sperm before a vasectomy and are now undergoing the far more costly and invasive sperm retrieval or vasectomy reversal procedures in order to have more children. When it comes to your reproductive future, we urge you to err on the side of caution.

The Process, Step by Step
The pre-vasectomy sperm banking process is very simple. Several days before your procedure, a semen sample will be collected into a vial. The sperm can be collected in one visit or spread out over several visits which provides a larger sample size for storage. For best results, refrain from ejaculating several days before submitting your sample. Once a sample has been received, blood tests will be performed to screen for infectious diseases. Lastly, the sperm is divided into several different vials for storage in our state-of-the-art cryopreservation center. If you do not have time to visit the Fertility Center of California prior to your vasectomy procedure we offer @Home Sperm Freezing Kits.
@Home Sperm Freezing Kit
The Fertility Center of California offers the @Home Sperm Freezing Kit which allows an individual to create a usable sperm sample for cryopreservation in the comfort of their own home. This kit is useful for patients that live outside of Southern California, and are unable to complete the sperm collection process at the Fertility Center of California prior to their vasectomy procedure. Once a sample has been made, the kit should be mailed using the pre-paid Priority Overnight service label through UPS. Shipments can only be made between Monday and Thursday.
