Sperm Bank Costs: Getting Pregnant via Sperm Donation
Selecting a sperm donor to help you build your family is a crucial step on the road to parenthood. Choosing a sperm donor carries a certain amount of stress - deciding what’s important in a donor profile, which donor option is best for your needs and whether the sperm donor is known or anonymous are all important decisions. However, once you’ve completed the process and made your donor selection, it’s time to purchase the donor sperm. The cost of donated sperm is dependent on a few factors, which are explained below.
Donated sperm are assigned a monetary value based on two models:
- premium vs. standard vial of sperm
- washed vs. unwashed
Donated sperm can be premium sperm that is washed or unwashed - the same goes for standard sperm. As expected, premium and washed sperm will have a higher cost. In cases of standard sperm, patients are guaranteed >10 mil. motile sperm, whereas with premium sperm, patients are guaranteed >15 mil. motile sperm. The decision is yours, although your fertility specialist may make a recommendation based on your individual situation. We invite those interested in the specific details of sperm bank costs to learn more by viewing the Fertility Center of California’s Donor Sperm Fee Schedule.
The Fertility Center of California also offers artificial insemination services to aid in achieving a pregnancy– including IUI (intrauterine insemination) and ICI (intracervical insemination). The fee for artificial insemination breaks down as thus: $490 for AI, $25 for an IUI catheter, $32 for a 9-day ovulation kit and $25 for specimen thawing.
We advise patients who are not yet ready to purchase donor sperm to take their time and feel free to browse our sperm donor database if they have yet to find a donor. This process can be overwhelming at times, but it’s important for prospective parents to remember that the entire team at the Fertility Center of California is on your side – we are here to support you through this process by answering any questions you may have, and we will work to address your concerns about using donor sperm.
